Ensuring our community develops the skills needed by our industry and that all members of the community have the opportunity for genuine work experience is important to the MACS Engineering Group. We participate or facilitate a number of programs to assist with this.
We are partners with Rio Tinto in two community skilling programs. The first involves apprenticeships and traineeships for members of the Wiri Tribe, the traditional owners of the area where Rio Tinto's Hail Creek Mine is located. This program is providing skills in metal trades and administration for three people at present. The other is a pilot program providing school based traineeships. If successful, this program will expand to other companies within the Mackay region.
We are an active member of the Mackay Area School Industry Links group and provide work experience on a regular basis to school students across a range of trade and administration areas.
We have 20 apprentices across our 2 locations. The apprentices are an equal split between recent school leavers and adults and are in the areas of boilermaking, sheet metal, auto electrics and coach and body building.
Community Support
At MACS Engineering, we believe in supporting young people in healthy activities. As part of this commitment, we have renewed our three year major sponsorship of Souths Junior Rugby League.
